I live in South Africa and GBV is very common (1 in 3 women have experienced it) and it’s so prevalent. It affects my daily life, the choices I make and how I interact with men.

The politics of help

The idea speaks to the idea of gender based violence in SA. More specifically, the lack of help that comes when women report violence. The image is that of a woman (who in essence represents all women), reaching out for help to the authorities and the authorities have tape over their eyes and mouth, showing a lack of care/response to help. The image of the skulls shows the lives lost due to Gender based violence. The cracks behind the woman shows the lack of hope or faith.
