Why did you choose this sketch?
Girls, being silenced by multiple internal and external causes finally pull out the stitches that them silent for so long. Finally telling society that they will no longer just be quiet and will voice their opinions.
Cartoonist:
Kegomoditswe Mabunda
Why did you choose this sketch?
This idea is to show that the continent of Africa is isolated from the rest of the world, and the children in it. This idea is so that people can understand that children in Africa, and even children around the world are silenced and ignored by people in power.
Cartoonist:
Rhulani Maminze
Why did you choose this sketch?
This image describes the idea of how when you’re on your phone, you think you’re alone but really, cooperations such as Instagram, Google and Facebook are keeping an ‘eye’ on you and making millions off of selling your privacy to companies.
Cartoonist:
Rhulani Maminze
Why did you choose this sketch?
This image is about how in South Africa, people are so poor that they have to often choose between school/literacy and warmth (which represents earning a living and keeping a roof above their heads) as children often have to leave school to start working in order to provide for their families.
Cartoonist:
Rufaro Wanjelani
Why did you choose this sketch?
My idea is an example of Gender Based Violence happening in South Africa. The woman in the sketch has her hands tied up with the male symbol, her mouth and throat as well. She has hands printed on her body which represnts how she has been sexually assaulted.
Cartoonist:
Rio Ludick
Why did you choose this sketch?
The leading party A.N.C having a big control over our country, showing Zuma being put away in jail but now being on "medical leave" playing golf , the people being happy but what is not seen by the people behind the "room" and all the the money and corruption that is still happening and Cyril standing with money in his pocket even tho people believe he is better. Then the separation of the people/supports by a wall, showing how some supporters have been treated better/differently. Growing up now and understanding how corruption is and just wanting there to be none etc...
Cartoonist:
Karabo Ketsisi
Why did you choose this sketch?
Children fighting for the less fortunate
Cartoonist:
Siwele Ishmael
Why did you choose this sketch?
I hold the idea that if people are to be taught through music, learning will be fun. In the communities that we are living in it appears that many people see reading boring, hence they fail, but if we were to have the top musicians integrated in the education system to drive the curriculum as many people enjoy music, through that entertainment people will be encouraged to learn
Cartoonist:
Carika Middelberg
Why did you choose this sketch?
How students are tied to a degree who often times have little worth when entering the work place. The person is cuffed to their degree and the diploma tuff is choking the character, demonstrating how the perceived idea of a degree giving you a head start is false.

I WONT BE SILENT.

To be honest I was more inspired by one girl in my class who has always been outspoken and voiced her opinions freely(even if sometimes it was a little out of the blue). She is a true role model and I feel like this is somewhat reminiscent of her.

Be seen, but not heard

The main idea is to push the agenda that children should not be limited by their circumstances, their living conditions or even down to what continent they’re living in, even culture expects us to be silent.

The economics of privacy / peeping tom

Whenever I search something, and it pops up on the Instagram as an ad or gmail, it would really freak me out until I found out about how these companies sell privacy and it’s interesting how sometimes I feel alone when really I’m watched by these companies.

This idea is to show that the continent of Africa is isolated from the rest of the world, and the children in it. This idea is so that people can understand that children in Africa, and even children around the world are silenced and ignored by people in power.

This image describes the idea of how when you’re on your phone, you think you’re alone but really, cooperations such as Instagram, Google and Facebook are keeping an ‘eye’ on you and making millions off of selling your privacy to companies.

This image is about how in South Africa, people are so poor that they have to often choose between school/literacy and warmth (which represents earning a living and keeping a roof above their heads) as children often have to leave school to start working in order to provide for their families.

My idea is an example of Gender Based Violence happening in South Africa. The woman in the sketch has her hands tied up with the male symbol, her mouth and throat as well. She has hands printed on her body which represnts how she has been sexually assaulted.

How students are tied to a degree who often times have little worth when entering the work place. The person is cuffed to their degree and the diploma tuff is choking the character, demonstrating how the perceived idea of a degree giving you a head start is false.
